This DIY idea blends a modern leg design with the conventional low angles and curved back of an Adirondack. Looks pretty interesting, right? It’s even easier and affordable to build for any weekend DIY’er.

The templates even have holes marked for you where you should pre-drill holes and drill pilot holes for screws to go into – it makes it totally foolproof, and I was surprised that even I didn’t make any mistakes when it came to prepping everything!

That said, the backrest on this model is flat, which is the sort of solution that some people might find a bit uncomfortable, but this is also the classic design that has been tried and tested over the past hundred years. I don’t know about you but I’ll be spending a good chunk of the summer in our backyard. I can just see myself with a (sometimes adult) beverage in hand watching my kiddos play. It is like a dream…until I realized that there’s no great place to sit! Ya see, we’ve had these disgusting plastic Adirondack chairs for years that leave a white chalky mark on your bee-hind.

Commonly used in building materials as porch and deck flooring, poly resin (CPVC) is a mixture of recycled wood pulp and resin. This material is environmentally friendly and basically indestructible. Color is blended through the material as part of the material creation process, so there is no risk of the color scraping off or anything. The material is designed to be out in virtually all weather and largely can handle snow without difficulty (we still recommend covering poly resin chairs in winter, though).

He and his staff, which has grown to three, all women from the area, developed some modifications along the way, like a slightly smaller version they called the Adirondack 90, which was downsized by about 10 percent to be more comfortable for women.

Cedar: While not as tough as teak, cedar does make a more durable chair than pine. The wood has a natural oil that resists bug infestations and decay. Like pine, a cedar Adirondack chair will need to be refinished every year or two. Cedar naturally adjusts to the moisture found in wet climates, making it an excellent choice for chairs that will be left in the rain.
